From their consultation we were excited to be working with Maureen & Eric. They were super organized & very excited about their photos from day one. Before long, we had a whole list of locations & outfits for a fun day in Newport! Although we love the Boston area, we also love exploring new places, so this was definitely a fun little adventure.

We started at the Newport Vineyards over a refreshing glass of white wine to sample the local handiwork and chat about their wedding day time line at the beautiful Oceancliff Hotel.

Next we headed to Gooseberry Beach for some summery shots.

We got a few shots in front of the mural at Firehouse Pizza, which used to be the real Newport fire house!

We couldn’t see Newport without heading to the docks. From there we ended up in the boat yard for some unique shots. That’s the only way we’d want to be under a boat!

The last bit of our evening we spent exploring the streets & shops of Newport. Maureen & Eric were given these monogram letters from Anthropologie (love that place!) as a pre-wedding gift. They were a fun & personalized prop to incorporate into their images.

Mike’s Rooftop Gourmet Blog Portrait! | Boston, MA

If you follow our blog, you may have just seen Mike & Siobhan’s engagement session. While we were at their house, Mike asked us if we wouldn’t mind grabbing a quick portrait of him in the kitchen for his blog, Rooftop Gourmet as well as for a food blogging contest called the 2010 Food Blogger Challenge (through foodbuzz.com).

Mike has been very interested in cooking and the culinary arts since a young age, when he began sticking around after Sesame Street to catch reruns of Julia Child. Turns out if you ask Mike “Big Bird or Julia Child?” he’ll say “the bird’s not the word”. Mike also works with his family’s wine business, and treated us to some delicious Chablis on their new roof deck. Amazing view of the Boston skyline!

Mike explains, “I love entertaining, cooking, and writing because telling a story and watching someone eat your food is the most rewarding feeling in the world for me.”

Mike describes Rooftop Gourmet as “basically a way for me to tell a story about a wine I love paired with a creative, innovative recipe that I create. It gives me an open forum to be myself, joke around, and offer my opinions on everything food-and-wine related. Not to mention the amazing food-and-wine-obsessed partner that I found who helps me cook, clean, and offers the best ideas ever.”

Siobhan & Mike are engaged! | Boston, MA | August 11, 2010

Siobhan & Mike have possibly the cutest. story. ever. Like movie-cute. So cute it’s kind of ridiculous. They met when Siobhan’s friend invited her to a party. It turned out, the “party” was just Siobhan, her girlfriend and these 2 guys, Mike, and his buddy who her friend was super into. Nice move! So while Siobhan’s girlfriend was chatting with Mike’s good friend, Siobhan & Mike ended up hitting it off quite nicely. In casual conversation, Siobhan told Mike she was training to run the 114th Boston Marathon on April 20, 2009. Mike quickly found himself declaring that he, too, was training for the very same marathon. What a coincidence! Now, this was no little fib… this little statement followed Mike around for months. And every time she asked, Mike assured her, “yeah, I’ve been training!” Once the race day came around, Mike literally found himself chasing Siobhan all the way to the finish line! (Though, if you ask him, he “let her win”… as you can imagine, this one is still up for debate ) Siobhan had shared with us that to celebrate their engagement they went to L’espalier right by the finish line. We immediately thought what a neat idea – to head to the finish line for some photos! We started there & took a little stroll down the street. We got some fun shots in front of the public library before heading to the beach near their house. After more exploring there we finished up at their place to get a few shots on their brand new roof deck. What a view! Siobhan & Mike – it was such a pleasure hanging out with you two. Thanks for treating us to some great wine (& some foodie knowledge)! Enjoy your prints at your engagement party in September, and we are really looking forward to your wedding next June!

A Black Pearl Covered Wedding Day Sign-in Book from Hilary & Tim’s Engagement Session

Hilary and Tim decided to put their engagement photos to use one more time in a Wedding Day Sign-in Book! (Click here to see how they first put their engagement photos to use as a Save the Date.) Noir Wedding Day Sign-in Books display your favorite engagement photos and allow for wedding guests to sign in the allotted blank space inside. We were excited to finally see the final product, and so were they! They chose the lovely Black Pearl cover for their book, which came out very nicely, we thought! The book was a big hit at their wedding (which we just shot this past weekend at the scenic Charter Oak Country Club in Hudson, MA). Don’t forget to check back for their wedding photos coming soon! We can’t wait to share them with you all.

We were excited when Sara & Tom came to us to have some custom Thank You cards made featuring one of their wedding photos. We love doing these sorts of things! Erin & Chris’ Engagement Session | Quincy, MA

I feel fortunate to have met Erin while working with Future Chefs, a great non-profit culinary program that helps fund and transition low socioeconomic kids from high school to culinary school programs or post-high school careers. Erin & I have had a lot of fun working together, but getting the chance to just hang out & relax a bit off the clock was a nice change of pace. We started at the Marina in Quincy, and then headed to the beach. They even brought their puppy, Winnie, along for the ride! We had a lot of fun – and *just* missed the thunderstorm that rolled in minutes after we finished. Thanks for introducing us to “the Q”, Erin & Chris! We’ll definitely have to head back there sometime soon to enjoy the summer view of the Boston skyline. Can’t wait for their wedding in September!

Hilary & Tim’s Shower Gift – a 16 x 24 Standout!

Do you remember my good friends Hilary and Tim? Well we did an engagement session for them back in September – we had a blast! Hilary just had her bridal shower and when I was going through her gift registries online I stopped and thought – wait a minute – wall art! They need wall art for their new apartment! So as a gift I had one of their favorite photos from their shoot made into a 16 x 24 inch standout to display in their home. Hilary and Tim loved their gift – Tim is very into photography (whenever I buy a new lens he reminds me that he will happily take any of my old ones off my hands) so I was excited to share this with him as well! I’m so glad they liked it. The Studio Noir will be shooting Hil & Tim’s wedding in August – but I also get to be a bridesmaid in the wedding and have some fun with my girls while Laura handles most of the photography for the evening! We really can’t wait for your wedding guys!

Angela & Phil’s Wedding Day Sign-in Album Is Here!

We are excited to say that Angela & Phil‘s Wedding Day Sign-in Album that we put together from their engagement photos has arrived and is ready to be displayed and signed by guests at their wedding July 24th of this summer! We can’t wait to give it to them! We really enjoy hand designing all of these albums and seeing the variations in cover choices that our lovely clients decide on. Angela & Phil went with the “White Snake” cover, and it looks beautiful, doesn’t it?

Samantha’s Shootsac Has Arrived!

I finally got a Shootsac! It arrived in the mail in the cutest packaging and we just couldn’t help but share the excitement with you! Jessica Claire designed the Shootsac to be the bag for photographers who need to have all their gear on easily accessible at their hip and to be able to change lenses in a flash. This is really going to be a huge help for me while shooting fast paced weddings this season. It even came with a super cute baroque interchangeable cover. I can’t wait to try it out at tomorrow’s wedding on the Cape!

Kate & Kelly – Beachside Engagement Session! | Good Harbor Beach | Rockport & Gloucester, MA

Kate & Kelly love each other. And they love surfing. In fact, they love it so much they head up to Good Harbor Beach about every weekend when the surf is up! So when they mentioned this to us, our eyes got wide, and we said of COURSE we’ll meet you to get some fun beach & surfing shots!!! (Talk about scenic!! Twist our arms, right?!?) We love incorporating activities each couple enjoys together into each engagement session – it makes it that much more meaningful & fun. We had a blast! We started out in Rockport around the cute shops & paths, then headed to Gloucester for some fun shots at Good Harbor Beach. Thanks, Kate & Kelly! You guys were refreshing.
